Letter from the Chairlady

Dear all,

It is great news for us that we get the venue confirmation letter from JCCAC. It means that we are going to the next phrase of making a good show.

It is such a long journey we go through from a simple idea raised in 2008. This idea brings 10 cohorts of ceramics graduates together to celebrate of the milestone of BA(Fine Art) programme co-presented by RMIT & the Hong Kong Art School. It is a great commitment and continuous support over the period from all of you that visualize the idea into action.

During the period of time, we have the objective of the exhibition work out. Thanks to Ray to propose the meaningful theme and name, Dual Plasticity, for the exhibition, not to mention making up a big pile of proposal with Blanche Ho for the ADC funding application. We have Ms Karen Lam, the Secretary of Academic Registrar from the Hong Kong Art School(HKAS), giving us a chance to apply for the JCCAC funding as a project supported by the HKAS. During that time the committee worked very hard to elaborate the idea and format the project to an ideal form. Although we are not successful in both funding, we have a very solid ground for the good show.

Thanks to the support of HKAS, especially Ms Karen Lam & Mr Felix Leung, the Director of HKAS to help us to fight for the JCCAC venue suiting our time frame and budget. We are now hiring the JCCAC Gallery 0 & Gallery 1, a total of around 6000 sq feet, at a price $600/day, just enough to pay the electric charges. It is because HKAS uses its only chance to apply the Art Promotion Scheme for this project. Otherwise, we need to pay $15,200/day for these two galleries. Now we hire the JCCAC during 21Oct to 7 Nov 2010 for 18 days at $10,800. What a blessing!

I am most gratified by the members of the committee for their dedication. They are taking up different posts voluntarily. We have Blanche Ho coordinating the whole group by phone, email and web management. Pat is our Treasurer making sure the best use of the money. Ray & Suzy our PR coordinate with external groups/people. Ray also leads the forum team with Irene Lau, Winus Lee & Dada Lau. Fian Choi and I are responsible for the Education Corner. Ida Yu manages the printing team with Rosanna Lau, Winnie Yan, Dada Lau & Blanche Ho. The workshop and guided tour group go to Miu Leung, Rosanna Lau and Angela Cheung. Not to mention the very important post, Venue Manageress is Elaine Tsang and Zoe Coughlan is giving a helpful hand. Lastly but not the least, Jessie Lam, our Secretary, has the minutes written for you. Without the devotion of the above members, the simple idea won’t be visualized and executed now.

Moreover, Prof Elizabeth Grierson, Head of the School of Art, RMIT University, is happy to know that we are having this exhibition and promises to have the exhibition news posted on the RMIT website.
I am letting you know our work because the exhibition won’t be accomplished without your full support. Other than showing your good work, you may tell us you can help too. Your presence in different events is great! Anyway, it is a show of 49 persons!

Should we gracefully put this milestone together.

Regards,

Siu Kam-han
